"An extraordinary phenomenon
appeared in the sky at _Brecon_, in _South
Wales_, between seven and eight o'clock,
seen by many credible persons. It was
three suns, the real and natural sun in the
center, which was the brightest; the others,
one on each side the center, opposite to
each other, and imagined, by outward appearances,
to be each of them equidistant
from the center: they shone bright, but
not so bright as the real sun, and of a
deeper red, as were the clouds surrounding
the two new suns. After having been seen
for some time, they at last vanished on a
sudden. They were what are called parhelions,
or mock suns, occasioned by the reflection
of the sun's rays in a hollow watry
cloud."
